The course
is a FULL WEEK of Marimba and percussion music!
Intended primarily for advanced marimba students, percussion
teachers, professionals, as well as marimba enthusiasts (Passive
only)! Also
intermediate through less advanced players are welcome to enroll in the course, if they prepare
minimum two pieces of moderate difficulty. (Suitable are
some pieces from "Funny Marimba Series" by Zivkovic for example)
We will have a 6 FULL days of practicing, lessons, Master classes,
and chamber music. Selected participants will perform
in public concerts on tour right after the course.
In 2010, a
SPECIAL GUESTS ARTISTS
ARE TUOPALI DUO from SPAIN! Tuopali Duo will also coach some
Ensemble classes and will take care about relaxing
latino Drum Circles. (Marimba is cool, BUT we all MUST RELAX and
GROOVE a bit it is good for body AND soul)
There will be two possibilities to participate
in the course: as an performing participant
(active) or observer (passive participant). It is highly
recommended that players who wish to perform
in the course apply early, since the
number of active participants
will be limited to 30! Also total number of participants
is
limited, there is space only for MAXIMUM TOTAL of 40 people in the
Landesakademie. (Apply early to get better rate and be
sure that you can be active participant. NJZ-biannual Summer
Academy is ALWAYS BOOKED OUT, this is not joke, but FACT, (see the
pictures of previous courses) we
expect that summer 2010 will be booked out by the end of 2009, so
IF you want to attend, make SURE to apply early)

Each active participant should prepare at least one composition
(better two though!!) of his choice. Interested percussionists may also apply, (active)
if they prepare any of Zivkovic's percussion works. Players
of any level are welcome as observers (passive participant).
Each active participant will get TWO coaching on the
Prepared pieces during the course, (individual lesson, whose length
depends on the difficulty and length of the piece he is
performing. approx. 20-40 minutes each lesson)
Passive participants will also be involved in fundamental questions
like grip, technique, etc but will not be involved in any
performing or any individual lesson.
PUBLIC CONCERT with the participants and
Nebojsa Zivkovic
we are working to organize
public concert in
Germany, right after the course. ONLY selected participants
will perform in a public concert in that will take place in the
Area. Also
percussion ensemble, marimba duets, and ANY chamber music
combinations are possible. Feel free to
take you partner with you to Germany, since Palatina is a
beautiful holiday and recreation area. We are also working on other concert possibilities in the
area!!
The emphasis of the course will be laid
on the following themes:
- work on pieces prepared by participants (included are also
solo PERCUSSION works or chamber music)
- fundamental performing problems - some aspects of mental
attitude towards solo performing.
- Two-mallet technique / four mallet grip and technical
exercises (sound, endurance, power-kicks, etc..)
- fun & NON-JAZZ improvisation on the marimba
(as you know, improvisation was there much before Jazz was
invented)
- SOUND approach on marimba,
sound projection, personal observations
- introduction of new works for marimba and percussion
(bring YOURS if you have something interesting!!)
- musical and formal analysis for all of Zivkovic's compositions of
interest, with emphasis on CONCERTOS.
- Chamber music, duets, percussion trios, marimba and piano,
etc...
COURSE SITE: CASTLE ENGERS, (Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz
in NEUWIED), in Romantic holiday area in the
southwest Germany, directly by the river side on RHINE.
The course will take place in the
Landesmusikakademie Rheinland-Pfalz, in VERY (!!) cool romantic Area,
literally next door to baroque Castle "schloß Engers", in Palatina (Rheinland-Pfalz) GERMANY, some
60 miles northwest from FRANKFURT/Main, next to city of KOBLENZ.
LANDESMUSIKAKAKDEMIE (means: STATE MUSIC ACADEMY) is a totaly
refurnished old aristocratic House, re-opened for public
in 2003! Totally restored into a modern, excellent place with
charming atmosphere. Just next to the Castle Wall ! In fact,
we do go to EAT (walk) in the Castle Engers. Accommodation is in
nice double-rooms ( or Triple/Quads , if more than 30 participants) with, bathroom.
Including breakfast,
lunch and dinner. We strongly believe, that good music needs also a good
atmosphere to develop. Academy is in a
perfect location for a holiday we have literaly 20 STEPS to the river
Rhine and all beautiful BOAT -TRIPS possibilities... (Rhine -castle
tour possible) So feel free to
take your family / partner with you and prolong your stay in Germany after the course for a nice vacation.

ARRIVAL, DEPARTURE AND COURSE DETAILS:
Total course duration is one WEEK. All participants should arrive on
SUN. Aug. 22nd 2010 in the afternoon (around 3-4 PM).
Departure is after breakfast on
SUN. August 29th.
There will be a welcome-dinner on
arrival evening for all, and we will have a preparation of the instruments
and lessons schedule.
After 6 full days of courses (6 hours per day course, PLUS
PRACTICING CHAMBER MUSIC) selection for the
public concert will be made.
Possibly one Internal course concert with ALL participants will take
place on Sat. August 28th.
We want to work hard and learn, BUT we also want to MEET each other
and to exchange experience and be friends.
We will also try to have one free afternoon to go on river Rhine and
see a bit of this beautiful area.
IF YOU ARE
COMING BY CAR, PLEASE TAKE YOUR MARIMBA WITH YOU. We will have
several YAMAHA MARIMBAS available.
We will practice chamber music, with Marimbas and percussion. Therefore also GROUPS are very
welcome.
WITH AN APPLICATION YOU WILL GET AN EXACT MAP of the SITE and
EXPLANATION HOW to ARRIVE to the COURSE SITE.

This is an ALL
INCLUDED FEE. (accommodation in double or triple or quadruple rooms, 3 meals
a day and course
fee,
IF YOU want to have a SINGLE ROOM, this is MAY BE possible too, with
extra charge.
We do expect course to be full soon and will probably need all rooms to be at least double occupancy)

MUST APPLY BEFORE JULY 5th and with THE APPLICATION a WHOLE

Your partner, spouse, or any family member who would simply like to
come with you and enjoy this beautiful area, is welcome, but we must
give the priority to the ACTIVE participants, so that confirmation
to the non-course visitors is possible only AFTER the dead
line. (It is possible to find private accommodation somewhere
in the town next to our Course site too)

If you are pretty sure that you WILL participate a course
it is better to transfer a FULL payment along with the application,
instead to first place deposit and the rest afterwards.. The reason:
Bank will take you probably about 30 Dollars for the transfer..
MAKE SURE THAT ALL BANK FEES go to YOUR debit, upon
arrival to the course the missing money taken by the banks (fee)
will be charged.
In case you pay in full but do NOT come,
and cancel BEFORE APRIL1st, only
a DEPOSIT will be withhold and rest will be paid back to you.
Canceling AFTER APRIL 1st, - requires 50% charge
of the total fee. (this is because it has to be paid to the academy
for sleeping and food even if you do not come)
